Shoulders are the most movable joints in the body. This joint consists of three bones, the clavicle called collarbone, the scapula called shoulder blade, and the humerus which is the upper arm bone.  Having minor shoulder problems, such as sore muscles and aches and pains is very common. Shoulder pain or problems could develop from everyday wear and tear, diseases like arthritis, over active movement or an injury.

Diagnosing a Shoulder injury

The diagnosis of the Shoulder injuries starts with physical examination of the symptoms and medical history. Medical imaging includes X-rays and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Other tests like blood tests could also be necessary and could be recommended as per the injury condition.

Shoulder Joint Replacement

Shoulder Joint replacement surgeries are done typically relieve shoulder pain caused by arthritis or to repair severe physical joint damages caused by other injuries. Shoulder joint replacement is a surgical method in which all or part of the joint is replaced by an artificial (prosthetic) implant.

Treating a shoulder injury

Treatment for a shoulder injury first includes first aid measures like pain relief or other medicine and physiotherapy.  The treatment depends upon the type, and severity of the injury. Factors like age, overall health condition and medical history also are the deciding factors in treatment options.

It is always best to see a specialist to get an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan. Any delay in the treatment could further elevate the underlying problem. Physiotherapy is one of the very common methods recommended for treatment and is generally advised along with other supportive treatments.

SLAP Tear

A SLAP Tear (Superior Labral Tear from anterior to posterior) is a shoulder injury which generally requires surgery for recovery. People in sports field that use the repeated shoulder motion are very much exposed to this type of injury

Shoulder Arthroscopy

Shoulder arthroscopy is a Minimally-invasive surgical procedure opted for shoulder surgeries. Arthroscopic equipment, attached with a small camera is inserted by making a small cavity. A  Shoulder Arthroscopy is recommended if non-surgical techniques aren’t working to relieve shoulder pain.

Bankart Lesion Repair

A Bankart lesion repair is typically performed to treat a dislocated shoulder by using arthroscopic procedures. This involves re-anchoring and suturing the torn piece of cartilage to restore security and stability to the shoulder and thus relieving pain.

Rotator Cuff Repair

Rotator cuff repair surgery is needed to repair torn tendons in the shoulder.

The Rotator Cuff Repair procedure could be done either with a open incision or with shoulder arthroscopy.

Reverse shoulder replacement

It is a shoulder replacement procedure where the existing ball and socket relationship of the glenohumeral joint is reversed. This helps relieve both severe shoulder arthritis and irreparable rotator cuff damage by creating a more stable joint with a fixed fulcrum.
